헨리 나우웬 - 끊임없는 기도 (쉬지않는 기도)

To pray without ceasing would be impossible if it meant that we did nothing but think and speak constantly about God.

 

끊임없는 기도가 다른 일은 하지 않고 하나님만을 생각하고 항상 그분께 말씀 드리는 것을 의미한다면 그것은 불가능합니다.

 

To pray unceasingly is not to think about God rather than other things, or to talk to God instead of other people,

 

쉬지 않고 기도한다는 것은 다른 일들보다는 하나님만 생각한다는 것도 아니고, 다른 사람들 대신에 하나님께만 말씀 드린다는 것도 아닙니다.

 

but rather to think, speak and live in the presence of God. 
 

오히려 하나님의 임재 안에서 생각하고 말하고 산다는 것입니다.

 

Prayer can only become unceasing prayer when all our thoughts – beautiful or ugly, high or low, proud or shameful, sorrowful or joyful – can be thought and expressed in the presence of God……

 

기도가 끊임없는 기도가 될 수 있는 것은, 우리의 모든 생각, 즉 아름답거나 흉하거나, 고상하거나 저속하거나, 교만하거나 수치스럽거나, 슬프거나 기쁘거나, 이 모든 생각을 하나님의 임재 안에서 생각하고 표현할 때 입니다

 

This requires that we turn all our thoughts into conversation.

 

이렇게 하기 위해서는 우리의 모든 생각을 대화로 바꾸어야 합니다

 

The main question, therefore, is not so much what we think, but to whom we present our thoughts.

 

그러므로 가장 중요한 질문은 우리가 생각하는 내용이 아니라 우리의 생각을 누구에게 보이는가에 있습니다

 

Prayer is an outward, careful attentiveness to the one who invites us to unceasing conversation.

 

기도는 끊임없는 대화로 우리를 부르시는 하나님에게 명백하고 정성스럽게 주의를 기울이는 것입니다.
